REDDING, California – A 28-year-old Redding man pleaded guilty today in Shasta County Superior Court to attempted murder and use of a firearm in connection with the September shooting of a registered sex offender.
In exchange for his guilty plea, Timothy Joseph Gould will be sentenced Feb. 2 to 15 years in prison. Gould must serve 85 percent of his sentence — about nearly 13 years — before he’s eligible for parole. Full Article

And this guy is punished because he is a danger to everyone that he doesn’t agree with. Lock him up and throw away the key – in the name of public safety.
Well, this is certainly not good news. Please note that the registered citizen wasn’t convicted of the nicest things, he still paid his debt to society and he is a human being. I don’t think there is anything worst than attempting to or taking another person’s life! Furthermore, taking a firearm and purposefully shooting another human being tells me you have issues! The sad part is that the perpetrator will probably be released in about 13 years, do 3-5 years on parole and live a rather peaceful life after a attempted murder plea, while a registered citizen with a expunged misdemeanor and summary probation/that expired years ago might remain on the registry! What’s worst? Or, who is more dangerous?
The problem with all of this is that, in time, Mr. Murderer will be totally cut loose and left to live as he chooses. RSO’s on the other hand, must serve their lifetime with ungodly restrictions, excessive and burdensome scrutiny and always the threat of public vigilantism. Mr. Murderer will be heralded as a “hero” while in prison and likely high-fived by the prison guards for a job almost well done. Kinda screwed up isn’t it?

Oh yeah Mr.Murder has it “made in the shade” in prison. He will probably not even have to do the normal hazing to join a gang in prison. If he is not already a member of one. He comes off to me if you read the article as a gangbanger anyway so I wouldn’t be surprised if this is not his first time in prison.
What makes me mad is the victim is acting nonchalant about it. Is that how brainwashed some price club members are into believing,I don’t know, they should be continuously punished.
Legislature of california ..you are fully aware in this instance and previous incidents that your registry incites violence prejudice discrimination bias and hate.
The demand here is protection from that incited registry. Safety to all citizens and civil rights commands it.

Wow.. is it just me or did that article just focused the lime light on the victim how his crimes roughly justified why he was shot at from his own door?
People need to start thinking out of the box. If the shooting was in fact secondary to the man being a registered citizen, why can’t he file s lawsuit against the state or county for disclosing his information via the Megan’s Website? Better yet, what if anything on the site regarding this man is incorrect (DOB/conviction date/incorrect conviction information)? This is substantially related to the lawsuit recently filed.
Or, why don’t all registered citizens begin routinely requesting additional police patrols due to the potential harm this site poses to them/their families and even neighbors? Call for extra patrols? Extra security? This has got to stop. People are being convicted of register able offenses daily. California, a tiered system allowing people to fall off the registry is needed now!
The public has proven, over and over again, that they are irresponsible with information,that is given them by the police, and on the registry, concerning registered citizens. While the registry has really never protected any children, it has caused major damage in the form of vigilante acts on registered citizens, and on their families. I agree that if the registry continues, more insurance of protection must be given to those who are listed on the registry, and to their families.
Holy crap USA you understand that we need to think outside the box. This guy needs to sue the state for the harm it has caused this man by making public his current address and picture which is not subject to public disclosure by any entity. DMV by law can not disclose that info so it only makes sense that the DOJ CAN NOT EITHER.

Release of personal information must be in accordance with the Information Practices Act of 1977 (Civil Code Section 1798 et seq.) and the federal Driver’s Privacy Protection Act of 1994 (DPPA) (Title 18 United States Code Section 2721-2725).

Rather ironic isn’t it – since I am sure quite a few of us (myself included) have the unfortunate classification of sex offender because we had no previous experience with or knowledge of the law and took one of those plea bargains ourselves (not much of a bargain it turns out.)
This whole mess needs to be scrapped as it does nothing to protect anyone and only ruins lives and make unfortunate situations into life long tragedies for all involved…except the politicians who manipulate people with it and law enforcement who has no interest in real safety but a lot of interest in creating more criminals to watch!
And why wasn’t this guy slapped with an enhancement for using the info on megans law to commit a felony act.
